I don't recall this hassle this year, so I am presuming it's new for this year. In fact, I seem to recall the Pile o' Gifts going on-site either Christmas Eve or Christmas day for $10 instead of $20 last year?
Seems to me it does not really "solve" any issue with credit-card fraud. But thanks for the update.
