> Where are you gathering these data about Brazil's government censorship?
http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Global-News/2010/0421/US-Brazil-lead-Google-s-Top-10-censorship-list-China-off-the-chart Number 1 in the world in private data requests, even outstripping the US. That's saying something considering the US has 200%+ more people than Brazil does. http://www.coha.org/the-internet-in-brazil-e-progress-and-e-censorship-in-latin-america%E2%80%99s-poster-child/ Trying to pass draconian laws in the name of "reducing piracy" when in fact it's more about attacking online free speech, expression, journalism, LGBT groups, etc. They're also really anal about anyone saying bad things about current or potential political candidates and try to delete such things. http://www.zdnet.com/article/brazil-collapses-in-internet-freedom-ranking/ Angry old men butthurt about people posting electoral information online, so it totally makes sense to arrest Google executives. > Kinda hard to believe that. I think it's much more likely the networks are being blocked out as "counter-measures" for dos or ddos attacks comming from other countries, where services are extremely cheaper. Brazil has such poor and limited internet infrastructure, why on earth would anyone want to attack it? About the only people that would bother are the NSA and bored hackers between jobs that have nothing better to do. You can replay two years of global DDoS attacks on this website and Brazil is pretty much irrelevant. Sure you see an attack every so often, but it's insignificant compared to the problems of the US for example where it's almost constantly hammered by both massive internal and external DDoS attacks. http://www.digitalattackmap.com/#anim=1&color=0&country=ALL&list=0&time=16647&view=map Null routing entire netblocks is not a valid tactic for combating DDoS attacks, everything upstream of the attack will be nailed and the trunk going to the target is still going to be saturated.
