Can't (read you should be!) you use org.hibernate.engine.spi.SessionImplementor#generateEntityKey ?
Its signature hides the values from Session actually kept on the genernated EntityKey: public EntityKey generateEntityKey(Serializable id, EntityPersister persister); That signature has not changed.
