hi christine! as far as my petty research went i came to the conclusion that dovecot listens to all appropriate ports, but when (ssl? #t) establishes encrypted connections.
i have not yet managed to talk to my dovecot instance so far, though > imap-login: Error: Failed to initialize SSL server context: Can't load SSL > certificate (ssl_cert setting): There is no valid PEM certificate. nb the (letsencrypt) cert exists, is valid, readable and otherwise intact gabber
