How can that even happen? I have a customized but pretty normal usage
of guix.

I use a btrfs file system, I don't if it can be the culprit, but this is
extremely annoying, as it can even break boots (if a boot configuration file
is empty).

My two cents:

I noticed it happening a few times with me, on ext4, xfs, and btrfs, with/without LUKS, and
on amd64/aarch64 real/virtual platforms with linux-libre, and linux-xanmod (from nonguix)
> 6.10. I had "discard" filesystem mount option enabled (as I'm on a SSD based
system), which I had to disable in favour of fstrim service.

At Guix days 2025, someone pointed out Samsung drives (which I am using, at
least on my real) had some known firmware issues in the past.

On my btrfs computer, I enabled snapper service.

And ofcourse, I also decided to stop rebooting my computers, instead choosing
to shutdown. kexec, and suspend to RAM are not quite deterministic, so reboot
it's.

Oddly enough, I used NixOS on the same hardware for two years, and it never
happened there.
