Hi Guix,

in using ICECAT
quite often many webpages say:

"it is outdated"

Indeed, it is (115) !

IceCat isn’t really outdated, the message is almost certainly due to extension preventing JavaScript from running.

Guix has a recent snapshot of IceCat, which was updated within the last few weeks. IceCat upstream is one ESR behind the current Firefox, being based on 115; the current is 128. Seeing big differences in Firefox versions gives a misleading impression, since there’s a new major version approximately once a month. The 115.x series of ESRs is less than a year old.

and I can´t read this website

I have a lot of addons to block trackers
like NOScript, LibreJS, Privacy Badger, JShelter, PrivacyRedirect,
UblockOrigin.

I used to have the same problems, until I discovered LibreWolf (up to date, 135). Never looked back again: give it a try, unless you have a
strong reason to use Icecat.

I think the main difference is between the extensions enabled by default between the two browsers, not how up-to-date anything is. If you’re going to run stuff like NoScript and LibreJS, you have to understand what they do and be prepared for some sites to break. A current LibreWolf (or even Firefox) with the same extension setup as IceCat would behave basically the same. Let’s not put undeserved blame on IceCat.

Thank you for the kind words about LibreWolf (which I contributed and have kept up-to-date since). It’s heartening to hear when others appreciate the things I’ve worked on.
