Hi,

for your information:

If I do a
 "sudo -E guix pull"

it doesn´t work:

gfp@Tuxedo ~$ sudo -E guix pull
guix pull: mistake/Fehler: directory '/home/gfp/.cache/guix' is not owned by user root
hint/Hinweis: Backtrace:...

root can´t open some files

Hi,

since 2,5 years, when installing Guix SD on my laptop
I was advised to do a (and I also understood the manual like this)

"guix pull" and a "sudo guix system reconfigure /etc/config.scm"

I never used "sudo -E guix system reconfigure /etc/config.scm"
or a "sudo -i guix system reconfigure /etc/config.scm"

but checking now:
~$ sudo -E guix show linux-libre
shows my linux-libre 6.12.9 , the updated kernel in my sudo account.

so I did the same as David and it worked for 2,5 years.

Kind regards
Gottfried

Interesting! Previously, the Guix docs would not have recommended doing
it like that. The environment you get when you run `sudo` without any
options was considered to be somewhat ambiguous and not useful for Guix.

Thanks again, this is a really important point.

I did "sudo -i guix pull" and "sudo -i guix system reconfigure
/etc/config.scm" and now I have linux-libre 6.12 (and also plasma with
tiling extension, a life changer for me).

Is there some wiki where explanations such as you gave me could be included?
Or could that be in the guix manual?
