package variants, ex: emacs-gtk, emacs-lucid

I noticed there are no package variants 
for emacs, libreoffice. I didnt check 
other packages. examples: emacs-gtk, 
emacs-lucid, libreoffice-writer, 
libreoffice-calc. Is this intentional?
