Thanks, Simon. I think you're right about my file:/commands: example. I had simplified it from a generalised library that we have, in which our "commands:" library component is inside a bundle with an argument e.g. "$(arg)", and that argument is used as part of our "ifvarclass". But in simplifying our caller+library structure for the purpose of this email thread, that "$(arg)" aspect had (correctly) disappeared; but that meant that the "ifvarclass" could also be simplified as you suggest.
