Well, if it's not gonna work, it should at least look pretty. :)  In any event, 
I'd expect that a classes promise would be considered kept if the class was 
already in the state it should have been, and repaired if the class was set if 
previously unset.

Speaking of which, I wonder if it'd be a useful addition to the documentation 
for someone to create a truth table showing the before and after states for a 
given prmoise, and what resultant kept/repaired/failed messages each would 
emit...
