You can definitely get newer Emacs builds for Mac OS X. 24.1 is in pretest now and it has a huge amount of fixes and improvements, but even 23.2 or newer is a big step forward. You can get all of those at http://emacsformacosx.com/builds Please let me know if you feel supporting GNU Emacs 22.x or XEmacs is important to you, otherwise I'll keep supporting just GNU Emacs 23.x and newer.
