I've thought at this problem . On HP-UX we must be able to install bundles or products (to keep it simple). We may just use swlist -v instead of swlist -v -l product . We would then get bundles and products in the package list. But not packages below bundles ... And grep ^software_spec is useless :-) It may be sufficient if common package administration consist in installing bundles and products .
