In cfengine v2, you could directly use yp/nis netgroups, e.g. groups: my_hosts = ( +my_team_hosts ) I cannot find any reference to nis in the cfengine3 documentation. Is this genuinely missing? If so I guess I have to run a shell command to get this stuff and put it into a string list.
