Of course, but I always do "make install" because I want to install Cfengine.
I don't compile it for any other reason but to install it.  (Since I'm a user of
Cfengine.)

Interesting. I thought /var/cfengine was meant to be a "local cache"
*in addition* to the default install directory.  What happens if you
make /var/cfengine the default install prefix?  Do you lose the
 "local cache"?
