I do remember this thread popping up every now and then. I have been around for quite some time in the computer world. I actually had a Sinclair with a whole 16k memory. I thought the web was a fancy FTP and was only a fad. I remember and used cfengine-1.0 (10+ years ago). I saw nothing wrong with /var/cfengine then, nor do I see it now. Just like port 5308, that is a standard now. As a side note, I try and stay away from any distributed filesystem (NFS/DFS/AFS) for management, They can do down fairly easily and lock everything up. If I need to install a script or RPM (etc), I use cfengine to deliver it and install it. I have two promises that are made and I know they have been completed. I just seen way too many issues with security and distributed filesystem, sure they are cool and easy, but audibility makes them practically unusable. _______________________________________________ Help-cfengine mailing list Help-cfengine@cfengine.org https://cfengine.org/mailman/listinfo/help-cfengine
