I think what I'm going to do is make use of Diego's brilliant set_variable_values bundle instead of using getindices in this way. By using both a field_edit and an insert_line, his bundle avoids having to delete "$(parameter_name).*". As a result there is no risk to having the variables placed in a different order after the new file is built. Diego, this is a becoming a popular bundle!
