I do believe it is "normal" as it builds an object cache, but I would like
to hear more detail on any internal limits, garbage collection, etc.

We've noticed that, on select platforms, there appear to be memory leaks
which require event handlers and auto-restarts.  We noticed this mostly from
the daemon becoming unresponsive (if left long enough without a restart),
and it is also visible on cacti host resource graphs.
