Hi,

I was wondering if using cfengine to maintain configurations on a SOA
appliance like Layer 7 or Datapower for instance would be feasible.
Although, it is not possible to install the cfengine agents on the box by
design (it is a closed design for security reasons), there are remote
command line or SOAP/REST style tools that allow configuring applications
installed on the appliance.

So, using a server with cfengine installed on it as a front end to
configure the appliance sounds like doable to me. The idea would be that the
policies would issue remote configuration commands based on configuration
files that would describe the internal configuration of the appliance. Has
anyone tried / succeeded / failed in using cfengine in such a use case ? Any
feedback welcome.

Tks.
