DNS needs to be stubbed for tests --------------------------------- Key: HDFS-1837 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-1837 Project: Hadoop HDFS Issue Type: Bug Components: test Affects Versions: 0.23.0 Reporter: Daryn Sharp Assignee: Daryn Sharp
The tests use various short hostnames that are assumed to not exist. Ex. host, somehost, host{1-5}, foo, etc. If the host really does resolve then it triggers a hardcoded 45 retry attempts. Adding 45s+ to a negative test really slows down the test suite. Some people may be mildly unlucky to have a few of these dummy hostnames resolve in their domain. They will take a penalty on the magnitude of minutes. Those of us unfortunate enough to have wildcard dns resolution are unable to run many of the tests w/o unplugging from the network because the test suite won't finish (ex. I killed a run after 16 hours). The tests need to have dns stubbed out to only resolve the host itself and localhost. -- This message is automatically generated by JIRA.
