This paper cites works by L. Kott, but not his PhD thesis "Des substitutions dans les systemes d'equations algebriques sur le magma" (Univ. Paris VII, 1979) which is (as far as I can remember) among the earliest efforts to characterize fixpoint stability with respect to substitution.
