Thank you for contacting me regarding your support for federal funding for
libraries. I always appreciate hearing from constituents and welcome this
opportunity to respond.
Libraries are vital to our communities and play a critical part in developing
and improving literacy skills for students across the country. There are
federal grant programs that exist through the Institute of Museum and Library
Services (IMLS) such as the Library Services and Technology Act and the
Innovative Approaches to Literacy Act. The Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations
bill, which I voted to support, included $294,800,000 for the IMLS. Most
recently, the Fiscal Year 2025 continuing resolution, which I also supported,
secured funding through September 2025. As you may know, President Trump
recently issued executive orders aimed at removing IMLS's non-statutory
functions and streamlining its statutory functions to the minimum legal
requirements. Please know I will keep your thoughts in mind as Congress
considers funding for library programs.
