I've never asked anybody to switch to whatever compiler, why would I? Maybe you should try with BCC582 (also free) to see if they've fixed it. Anyhow since this looks like a compiler specific problem, and and I cannot see the root cause, a googling didn't give anything useful, I'd like to leave this problem for someone who can make a better judgment here regarding the proper fix. Probably a complete list of Harbour build errors could help to make a better judgement here, as I doubt cpbg866.c is the only one file with problems. msgbg866.c also has similar chars, which you've posted a screenshot for even. If 'make_gnu.bat -i clean install' doesn't work for this purpose, the only sure way to find all files, is to remove each problematic ones one by one from 'Makefile's (while making note of them) and try creating another build.
