For ubuntu, at least 8.04 I used to install these packages:

sudo apt-get -f install glade-3 glade-gnome-3 libglade2-dev
libgtk2.0-dev libslang2-dev libncurses5-dev unixodbc unixodbc-dev make
cvs subversion bison

That will install all dependencies that I need for harbour and xharbour as well
