Subject: [Harbour] OT - E-Mail Address Verification

> Is there a way to verify if an email address is valid or fake ?

what do you mean, to know is, for example, [EMAIL PROTECTED] a real,
existing address?

you may check everything [address forming, mail servers, ...], but the final
test, is there a mail box named "alfa.beta" on domain "gama.delta", is not
possible. as i remember [maybe phil wrote few years ago] there *is* a mail
protocol query upon which the server should answer "yes, i have an inbox for
that mail address", but for security [anti-spam] reason mail admins often
[allways?] disable that response.

so, sending coded message to tested address, and waiting for somebody
response is the only way to test that address is real

i would like to know if i am wrong
