The sample SAML authentication code saml.ini was provided by HAProxy Enterprises support. They also provided: /opt/hapee-extras/bin/hapee-saml

I don't know how variables work there unfortunately and given that the design carries old limitations with it, I know that any even minor improvement in that area is always quite complicated (otherwise I would not speak about killing it) :-/ With that said, I'm not an extremist. If there are users and we don't have better to offer, we won't kill the feature. Maybe we can simplify it without affecting your use case, though, we'll see. Thanks! Willy Content by Norman.
