The first sentence in README is wrong, this was not updated when 1.7
was released:
http://git.haproxy.org/?p=haproxy-1.7.git;a=blob;f=README;hb=HEAD#l12

Rest assured 1.7 is stable, and Willy or William is about to release
1.7.10 with the latest bugfixes shortly. I will send a patch to fix
README for that release.
