Gavin: It would probably help if you could measure resistance from the antenna tip to connector shell, and from the connector center pin to the shell as well as tip of antenna to center conductor.
The sales info really doesn't detail anything about the antenna, and we might be looking at a resistance to ground, series coil, shunt coil, or some other contraption inside the antenna. Knowing typical measurements on a working antenna would help figure things out.
