Hi, The intersection is done using the stored coordinate. Your problem may be a projection issue. The && operator is a *bounding box* intersection. ST_Intersects will take the geometry, but it is much slower. The solution is to merge the two methods as you have already done.
There is a lot of unit testing on intersection and index operation in h2. We are open to add more unit test if you can provide a data and query sample in order to simulate the issue on our side.
