Considering we have currently 639 (and rising) pull requests (pr) on hold makes me think that committing "trivial" changes to master is fine, in my experience. Otherwise, the throughput becomes too slow and time consuming. On the other side, pr are adapted to more sophisticated changes, where having a community feedback is worth the extra investment it requires.
