I’m afraid as well: it’s unclear to me whether/how we’ll be able to
build the toolchain without pre-built ‘configure’ & co.

I’m hopeful because live-bootstrap mostly succeeded apparently, but in
some cases the solution amounts to rewriting a build system for the
package at hand, especially for those packages built before Autoconf.
