Hello Guix contributors!

We, your dear release team, are preparing for the upcoming release of
Guix 1.5.0 in January 2026.

We are settling on a major update freeze. On November 3rd for
toolchains, runtimes and the like. And on December 1st for major package
updates.

During the freeze, we will need everyone’s help to not push any major
updates to master. Instead, team branches stay available and a
next-master branch will be created to receive them.

This should affect mainly the teams that are already in the QA queue.

No worries if you need more time though, there will be regular releases
after this, so you will be able to make it next Summer, and on the
rolling release of course :)

We are following the plan suggested in GCD 005[1,2], check it out for all
the details. We will also send weekly updates with more details.

That’s all for this week 👍

Your dear release team,
Efraim, Futurile, Noé, Rutherther, Rodion, and our guest for this week Jelle!
