Would this require a GCD then? Adding a mirror selection option to the installer seems uncontroversial and not too complicated, especially if we let users choose a mirror rather than trying to geolocate them. The servers from the libreplanet list can be hard coded into the selection prompt to start. I still think there aren't enough mirrors, especially considering that some of them might not be working. Debian has over 50. Guix is not at that scale but it would be nice to have at least 10 or so. The Libreplanet list only has 4 Guix mirrors.
