Success!  GNOME 3.30 works just fine.  The gnome-shell segfaulted(!)
because of stale state in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell.  I think that’s
terrible behaviour, but what can you do…

We should announce this breaking change when the wip-gnome3.30 gets
merged.
