- A numeric sufix: Like "latest.1" for the first generation, "latest.2" for the second, and so on, and "latest" for the numbered backup being considered as current. Thus, the date and time information would be kept in the file metadata, not in the name, specially considering that names with ":" might be problematic in some file systems.
