Are you aware of the work done on whippet to replace that for Guile 4?

Do you see aspects that could be a problem for Lilypond? From what I
read on IRC, there’ll likely be changes to SMOBs. Also there are notes
by Wingo on SMOBs and malloc, maybe these could give pointers:

And they show that you’re not the only one struggling with malloc:
"these functions are just truly gnarly".
