A global menu eases the user to focus on the tasks by eliminating the dis-attractive menus from inside the application windows. At any given time, only the menus of the active window are presented to the user at the topmost edge of the screen. In Gnome desktop environment, Global Menu also implements a new active window switching mechanism via a global menu entry.
