I was wondering myself about some weird form of optical feedback: not hide the cursor completely, but show it as a small dot or ring. Then re-center it based on a falling exponential function or similar (i.e. add the movement of the cursor and substract on regular time intervals alpha*(z - z0), when z are the mouse coordinates and z0 is the chosen center. Alpha will be a suitable constant <1 (e.g. 1/2). So if you don't move, you'll see the pointer "falling" towards the center. But I'll shut up now. Holidays are over, after all...
