To build GRUB from source you need some dependencies, there are listed in here https://cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/grub.git/tree/INSTALL To build from the release candidate archive, the high level steps are described here but there is more detail in the above install file: https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/html_node/Obtaining-and-Building-GRUB.html#Obtaining-and-Building-GRUB Hopefully this helps.
