I've also taken a quick look at a previous patch submitted for this issue [0], applied to current master and tested it locally. Regarding this concern:
For an unknown reason xgettext hangs during build after this patch. Could you check what is going on?
The build completes with xgettext (GNU gettext-tools) 0.22.5 and grub.pot is created without me seeing any problem.
