Eliminating the codepoints produces 95 glyphs as expected.  Just that earlier 
versions produced 128 glyphs for 0x0-0x7f.

After some extensive testing today, the problem may be with some distros ttf 
fonts.

The codepoint ranges 0-0x1f and 0x7f are controls and have no glyph. Do 
you have the comparison of glyphs in questions? What glitches do you see?
