Yes, have lvm.mod last on the list when creating the core.img, see http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2008-01/msg00200.html I had to create the core.img by hand, but Robert has made several fixes to make grub-install detect the need for lvm and raid and gpt.
