It already works. You need to have a compiler that can generate 32-bit code however, because the boot part of GRUB needs to be in 32-bit. We currently also have a build dependency on 32-bit libc and liblzo. I'm using a pure 64-bit Debian system with 32-bit libc and liblzo packages installed and that works fine.
