I am using groff (Peter's mom mackropackage) to write german texts and i was asking myself just the above question: how can i tell groff(mom) to hyphenate more german-language-sensible? So far my solution was to simply turn off hyphenation (.HY OFF in mom). For my current expertise on groff (which is slight) the method Werner explains above seems rather difficult.
