Currently @mozilla.org aliases and accounts are for original @mozilla.org
folks (a handful of people) and were for sometime used by foundation but
that practice stopped AFAIK otherwise they are assigned anymore. There has
been discussion over the years of allowing both contributors and projects
inside of the Mozilla umbrella to have aliases but that discussion has not
resulted in anything but proposals and no ownership of actually making it
happen.

Most recently Mike Hoye made a proposal but I think the reason a lot of
discussion is happening and not any action is the lack of approval from
leadership and the lack of ownership from IT.

Until then your best option might be to reach out to community ops who
could register a generic domain name like thunderbird-community.org or
something and setup email aliases for you on the community ops
infrastructure.
