Dear Mozilla, I am 22 years old. I have used Firefox since version 1, when my father installed it on our home PC. I have always been a huge supporter and near-exclusive user. I have encouraged friends and relatives to use Firefox and Thunderbird to protect their privacy and have a better web experience.
I uninstalled Firefox yesterday, because of your cowardly caving to anti-marriage gay groups. It is clear that Brendan Eich's donation to Prop 8 was motivated solely by his personal and private views. It is clear that he has never been accused of any kind of hateful or discriminatory behavior, and that his leadership as CEO would not be impacted in any way by his personal views. But....the gay community needed to put support for traditional marriage on the same kind of level as white supremacism, neo-Nazism, and other noxious ideologies. Brendan Eich became the sacrificial victim on the altar of political correctness. Mozilla did not have to allow his resignation. Mozillans could have spoken loudly in support of their co-founder. Instead...a few whimpers, then silence, then acquiescence. Mozilla, which once took on tech industry goliaths like Microsoft, couldn't stand up to the shrill screaming of a few activists. It was a remarkable display of gutlessness. I am very disappointed. Mozilla's bold, freewheeling spirit and it's perpetual underdog status was always inspiring to me. But I will not support you backstabbing, cowardly traitors. I've installed Pale Moon and altered the user agent string so that it does not get counted by web statistics. Hopefully, some non-cowardly organization will rise from your ashes, unafraid of popular opinion and willing to do the right thing for a truly open and free society. _______________________________________________ governance mailing list governance@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/governance
