>About the 50k limit... any way you can give me an idea of how many >YahooGroups messages might be bounced for that?
In the last three hours mail-archive has rejected 64 messages due to size, 62 of which came from YahooGroups. This is a particularly slow time of the day/week. >Or perhaps the list names which routinely exceed that limit? I know >that most of the messages on the lists that I have archived at >Mail-Archive (several dozen lists between YahooGroups and Topica :)) >would fall into the 2-4k category but there might be others with >larger sizes, I could try to contact those.... These are lists where every message has a large binary attachment, typically one or more JPEG images. I guarantee the list administrators will be uncontactable. These lists ignore bounces, and I have no known way of unsubscribing mail-archive from them. Nor do I particularly want to baby-sit this type of thing. The size limit is not a great solution, however, as it causes trouble for lists which only occasionally have a large message (the postmaster of vger, which runs many technical mail lists, recently complained to me about this). >PS: if you have any comments you would like for me to share with the list >owners on my ListHelp list please feel free to let me know. You are welcome to share whatever you wish. At this point, any interoperability problems with YahooGroups/Mail-Archive is on their end. I may eventually decide to completely ban YahooGroups from using the mail-archive service in the future. My biggest gripes are: 1) YahooGroups is a major spam and abuse haven. This wastes my resources (bandwidth, disk space) and sometimes I get misdirected complaints. 2) On more than zero occasions, someone has maliciously added [email protected] to a private YahooGroups list. I really, really wish YahooGroups would add "Restrict: No-External-Archive" headers to their messages from private lists, as this would prevent an entire category of abuse and confusion.
