Maybe you changed the top-level gridlines option, which is not used. You
need to change both hAxis.gridlines and vAxis.gridlines.
On the site you linked to before, I am still seeing:
1. hAxis:
1. gridlines:
1. count: 5
2. __proto__: Object
2. textPosition: "none"
