Since all I found was adding KML I propose this should work with API 3
  var myOptions = {
    zoom: 13, //variable
    mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN //variable
  };
map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("googlemap"),
myOptions);
var ctaLayer = new google.maps.KmlLayer('http://
www.astonnechellscofe.org.uk/Parish_of_Aston_and_Nechells.kml',
{preserveViewport:true});
ctaLayer.setMap(map);
map.setCenter(new google.maps.LatLng(52.5075,-1.87965))
I hope it works for you.
Best wishes
