1. Your map isn't working in IE (but is in Firefox). 2. The root to 'main.css' is broken (or the file is non-existent) which may well be causing some of your problems. 3. Try replacing your doctype with - <!DOCTYPE html> to load in standards mode.
Personally, I wouldn't link a css document for this. You're only going to have a few css definitions anyway so just stick them in the same document. It will load faster, keep everything together and help us understand what's happening. I suspect that almost all the problems you have are to do with your CSS rather than the map API.
