Hello Ben, It's still happening to me (on any page using the GMaps V3 API), but not on the http://maps.google.com/ , and not on the V2 samples (as in http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/examples/map-simple.html ).
I'm using an iPhone 3GS with OS 3.1.3 , if that helps...
